Bonas MacFarlane Scholarships

In 2017 Bonas MacFarlane offered a group of 26 students from widening participation backgrounds (free school meals or parents who did not attend university) 100% scholarships on our University Preparation Programme. Students received one-to-one tuition and mentoring through the sixth form, plus a programme of seminars, extension lectures and extension readings designed to help them make better university choices, and enhance their academic skills. Taught by our top university advisors and university academics from Oxbridge and Russell Group universities, the course is inspirational and highly effective. Almost 50% of this first group received Oxbridge offers.

In 2018 we expanded the programme to provide 100% scholarships to 63 students.

Primary Partnership

Like many schools in the state sector, St Cuthbert’s with St Matthias has been severely affected by recent government funding cuts. Bonas MacFarlane has established a partnership with St Cuthbert’s to support children across the age range. The tutors we introduce help staff a Homework Club as well as working with the school’s high achievers to enable them to realise their potential. The Chair of Governors described this help as “invaluable, especially when so many of our parents are new to the system in this country.”

Foundation K

Charles Bonas founded and is a trustee of the charity Foundation K, which provides access to high quality education for talented children. The Foundation has developed a special Young Leaders Programme to nurture the leadership potential and to open doors into the world of international private schooling for children with exceptional abilities.

United World Schools

Our company recently funded the entire building of a school in Cambodia via our chosen charity, United World Schools. The village is in the province of Mondulkiri, Northern Cambodia (GPS co-ordinates 13.1807 N, 107.0927E) and is one of the most remote they have ever built. Now in its third year, UWS Norng Bou School currently has 178 children on the roll (87 girls, 91 boys).
