Hector of Troy, Nelson Mandela, Captain Marvel…What makes a Hero?
We look at hero archetypes throughout the ages – from classical warriors and Arthurian legends to comic book superheroes and political icons. Using illustrations, photographs, film, art and explore - What do they look like? How do they present themselves? What is their costume’? How do they talk? What’s their persona? Are they funny, serious?
The Poetry of Pop Music. How do great singers tell great stories in three minutes?
Listening to music we analyse the story of the song, focusing on setting, simple or complex imagery, repetition, motifs, descriptive words pupils develop and write their own poem.
Punks & Rockers, Mean Girls, Stars Wars vs Star Trek, Chelsea vs Man Utd - How do we create our tribe?
How did Tribes begin and get started up? Taking a look at modern examples we look at what were they responding to? What do they have in common? Why is the tribe important for the people in it? What do they get out of it?
Monsters, spooky places and nasty shocks. What makes scary stories scary?
Through storytelling, we explore and analyse literary techniques to help the student write their own scary story, ghost story or fairytale,
