Performance

This is a course designed to harness confidence, unlock creativity and boost powers of expression through a combination of fast-paced games and free-flowing writing.

Lessons 1 and 2: Capture your artistic voice

We will explore what the student's individual artistic voice is through questions about their activities, interests and brainstorming around issues which matter to them. By the end of the second session, students will have crafted their own artistic statement, an expression of their creative potential.

Lessons 3 and 4: Questions become quests

We will consider what makes good stories and why as well as how to create them yourself. We’ll take inspiration from great writers, performers and classic narrative structures to help settle on a creative idea based on a student’s pressing question and begin developing it. We will consider many possible forms to work with, from plays to short films and music.

Lessons 5 and 6: Narrative, worlds and risks

We will look at the overall structure of the work and the chosen form, making a start on writing and drafting the content. Each student will finish with a plan of action that leaves them in command of how to continue developing their work, a formula that will help them to develop their own ideas in future as well as a repertoire of games.
